The only way to cure preeclampsia is to deliver the baby. In some cases this can mean (come work artificially), although this depends on how far the pregnancy is. Being born (before the 37th week of pregnancy) can be dangerous for the baby, but childbirth can sometimes be necessary to ensure safety for both the mother and the baby. Women may be advised to take low-dose aspirin and calcium supplements. However, you should not take any without arguing with your doctor or midwife first. Mild pre-eclampsia Mild pre-eclampsia is frequently monitored. In these appointments: Depending on your symptoms and situation, you will be asked to attend a prenatal appointment at least every 3 weeks if you are 24-32 weeks in your pregnancy. After 32 weeks of pregnancy, these appointments will be more frequent. Severe pre-eclampsia If preeclampsia is severe, you may need to be admitted to the hospital for closer follow-up and treatment. As pre-eclampsia tends to get worse more than better, it is unlikely that you can go home until after the baby is born. Supervision You and your unborn baby will be closely monitored in the hospital that may include: TreatmentThe treatment in the hospital aims to reduce the risk of preeclampsia of the mother and may include: premature birth Most women with preeclampsia will have their baby about 37 weeks, either by induced work or by section. A baby born before the 37th week of pregnancy is premature and may not be fully developed. However, if the baby is severely affected by preeclampsia or there is a strong risk of additional complications, it may be necessary to give the baby prematurely, as this is the only way to cure preeclampsia. It will try to manage preeclampsia until after 36 weeks of pregnancy. If you need to deliver the baby prematurely, corticosteroid drugs are often given to the mother before birth to help mature the baby's lungs. Premature delivery of the baby will usually be done by caesarea (through an incision in the abdomen). You should be informed about the risks of both premature birth and preeclampsia, so that the best decision on treatment can be made. The baby may need to stay in a neonatal intensive care unit. This can reproduce the uterus functions and allow the baby to develop fully. Once it's safe to do so you can take your baby home. Complications In some cases new complications can be developed, such as eclampsia. This is a type of seizure that can be life-threatening for the mother and baby. However, this is rare and less than 1 in 100 women with preeclampsia develop eclampsia. Sources: Learn more here about .
